Lisbon four-star hotels
Britania
The Hotel Britania bills itself as "a pure Art Deco boutique hotel" that
"records the glamour of the 1940s." Along with its lovingly-restored
1940s flavor, the Britania offers modern amenities. It's close to
the Avenida da Liberdade, within walking distance of the Avenida Metro stop.
Holiday Inn Lisbon-Continental
This American-style hotel near the Campo Pequeno Metro stop has 220 rooms
and suites, indoor parking for 140 cars, shops, a fitness center, and other
amenities.
Internacional Design Hotel
"Design hotels" are all the rage these days,
and Lisbon's version combines a classic building with a Modern Art-inspired
interior and a different theme on each floor. The hotel is centrally located by the Rossio and the Elevador de Santa Justa.
Jerónimos
This modern, stylish hotel is outside of
the city center, near the Jerónimos monastery, the Belém tower, and the
legendary Pastéis de Belém
pastry shop. In good weather, you can enjoy the sun in the hotel's private
courtyard.
Lisboa Plaza
The Metro is only 50 meters from the Lisboa Plaza, which is off the Avenida da
Liberdade with some rooms facing the botanical gardens. Karen Brown's
Portugal: Charming Inns and Itineraries calls this "a delightful, friendly hotel in a fabulous location."
Mundial
The modern Hotel Mundial is just east of the Pra�a da
Figueira, at the foot of the hill that leads up to the Castelo de S�o Jorge.
From the hotel, you can easily walk the short distance to the Rossio and other
locations within the downtown business and shopping district.
Olissippo Castelo
If you don't mind hills, this hotel's location is hard
to beat: It's in the Alfalma district, next to the S�o
Jorge castle gardens with spectacular views of the city from the hotel terrace
and from superior rooms (which have terraces of their own).
Tivoli Oriente
The most recent addition to the Tivoli collection is in
the Parque das Na��es, an attractive new area of Lisbon
where you'll also find the city's stunning
Oceanarium. The ultramodern Oriente railroad station (a major hub of
Lisbon's public-transportation network) is just two minutes away on foot.
Vila Gale Opera
London isn't the only big city with a Docklands area:
Lisbon has a restored port district of its own, with the ultramodern
Hotel Vila Gale Opera at its heart. The hotel is a tram ride away from the city
center.

Executive Eden Aparthotel
This hotel occupies a converted Art Deco movie theatre in the Baixa Pombalina,
Lisbon's Old Town, hear the historic Santa Justa Elevator and the Rossio train
station (where you can catch a train to Sintra). All of its studios and
apartments have kitchenettes, and a rooftop pool is open during the warmer
months.
York House
If you're looking for a lovely hotel in a romantic setting, this converted 17th Century convent in
a quiet neighborhood is worth investigating. Book as early as you can, since it's very popular with
British travelers.
